What is PTFE Glass cloth Tape?

PTFE glass cloth tape is made by infusing PTFE (polytetrafluoroethylene) in to the surface of of a woven fibreglass or Aramid (also known as Kevlar). This process is then repeated until a super smooth layer of PTFE (also known as Teflon) covers the fabric.

Does this have an adhesive backing?

PTFE glass cloth tape comes as standard with a high temperature resistant silicone adhesive. The adhesive is protected by a yellow release liner. The silicone adhesive will withstand temperatures of 260 degrees Celsius.

Can the adhesive be Thermoset? 

The silicone adhesive, on all our PTFE glass cloth tape products, can be “Thermoset”. Thermosetting is a process of subjecting the tape to a particular temperature for a period of time in order to maximise the effectiveness of the adhesive. In the case of these products, 4 hours at 200 degrees Celsius would be preferable.

Is there anything else that can maximise the adhesive strength?

Silicone adhesives are known as “pressure sensitive”. This means that certain amount of pressure is required in order to maximise the bond. There is no set figure for this however.

What thickness do you offer?

There are four thickness options we can offer.

The thickness is only to be used as a guide. Our PTFE glass cloth tape products are all manufactured to coated weight with set tolerances. This means that the thickness can alter slightly from one production run to another.

What size does your tape come in?

We have a number of slitting machines at Techbelt that allow us to offer a range of slit tapes. The typical width of tape offered range from 10mm up to 1000mm wide and all come on 30mtr rolls as standard. We can also break rolls down to shorter length if required. 2 x 15mtr rolls is often requested by our customers.
